Year 6
In Year 6 we have two classes both named after magnificent, native trees.
Holly Class
With bright red berries and spiky green leaves the holly is synonymous with Christmas cheer, but did you know this common native shrub was also used to ward against witches, goblins and the devil himself?
Holly Class are taught by Mr. Williams and supported by Mrs Paylor
Hazel Class
With nuts beloved of people, squirrels and Dormice, the Hazel is a useful tree with bendy limbs perfect for weaving or fencing. It has a further reputation as a magic tree; it will protect against evil spirits, be used as a wand and as a water divining rod.
Hazel Class are taught by Mr. Watkins and supported by Miss Earnshaw
The HLTA for Year 6 is Miss Hall
Miss Aveyard teaches groups from both classes
Year 6: Important Information
SATS
National, statutory SATs Tests in 2024 will take place between Monday 13th May to Thursday 16th May.
An information evening for parents and will be held in the Spring Term and the 2024 powerpoint can be viewed below.
Reading & Homework
Reading
It is vitally important that your child reads at home as well as at school.
The expectations are that your child reads every day at home. In Year 6, Reading books can be handed in on any day to be changed, but they MUST be brought into school every day along with their reading records as staff will also be reading with school staff through the day. If possible, these books need to have been signed by an adult each time your child has read.
Homework
Children will be given a list of spellings to learn and a times table sheet to help them practice every Monday. These do not need to be returned to school. There will be a spelling and times table quiz on Friday. Your child may also bring home resources linked to their success in the SATs test towards end of the year.
PE Kit
Please make sure your child has the appropriate PE kit. This includes plain jogging bottoms or shorts, a plain t-shirt or long sleeved top and trainers or pumps. Remember that P.E lessons are done both indoors and outdoors, therefore suitable outdoor trainers will be required.
PE in Year 6 will take place on Tuesday and Thursday
Children should come to school wearing their usual uniform and change into P.E. kit before the lesson.
Residential
Year 6 is the second of our residential years. Children get the opportunity to attend a residential trip to the Robinwood Activity Centre, Todmorden. Although there is a charge for this we encourage all our children to go on this amazing trip.
Initial contact will be during Year 5 so that we can provide at much time as possible to prepare for the trip.
Water
Please provide your child with a water bottle, so that they may stay hydrated through the day. Please ensure that you send only water in with your child and not juice or carbonated drinks.
