Year 3
In Year 3 we have two classes both named after magnificent, native trees.
Maple Class
The field maple, is our native maple tree. Their foliage glows golden in Autumn and they can live up to 350 years. Medieval superstition said; if a maple branch was passed over a baby, it would remove all traces of witchcraft.
Maple class are taught by Miss Oliphant. They are supported by Miss Yazdi-Davies.
Hawthorn Class
Hawthorns team with wildlife, taking shelter amongst their dense, thorny branches. Their highly scented, delicate white or pink blossoms signal the change from Spring to Summer. Hawthorn leaves and blossom appeared in May Day garlands and they were said to have been the orginal May Pole.
Hawthorn class are taught by Miss Dinsdale and are supported by Miss Mitchell.
The HLTA for Year 3 is Miss Johnston.
Miss Aggarwal teaches in Year 3 in both Hawthorn and Maple one day per week.
Year 3: Important Information
Reading & Homework
Reading
It is vitally important that your child reads at home as well as at school.
The expectations are that your child reads every day at home. In Year 3, Reading books can be handed in on any day to be changed, but they MUST be brought into school every day along with their reading records as staff will also be reading with school staff through the day. If possible, these books need to have been signed by an adult each time your child has read.
Homework
Children will be given a list of spellings to learn and a times table sheet to help them practice every Monday. These do not need to be returned to school. There will be a spelling and times table quiz on Friday.
PE Kit
Please make sure your child has the appropriate PE kit. This includes plain jogging bottoms or shorts, a green t-shirt , a plain hoodie or long sleeved top and trainers or pumps. Remember that P.E lessons are done both indoors and outdoors, therefore suitable outdoor trainers will be required.
Water
Please provide your child with a water bottle, so that they may stay hydrated through the day. Please ensure that you send only water in with your child and not juice or carbonated drinks.
