Our Ethos, Rules & Values
At Greenhill, we believe that every child should feel valued, respected and encouraged to reach their full potential. Our ethos, rules and values are at the heart of everything we do. They help guide how we learn, play and work together as a community.
Our Ethos: Who We Are
At Greenhill, our ethos is based on creating a supportive, inclusive and friendly environment for everyone. We want our children to feel safe, happy and confident in all that they do. Our school is a place where:
-
Everyone is treated with kindness and respect;
-
We celebrate diversity and encourage teamwork;
-
We believe in fairness and equality.
By embracing these principles, we create a place where everyone can thrive and succeed and become active British citizens.
Our School Rules: How We Learn Together
We have simple and clear rules to help make sure everyone feels safe and respected in school. These rules are followed by both children and staff - they help everyone have a positive experience at school.
-
Be Safe: Always prioritise safety - both in person and online. Follow instructions, use school equipment responsibly and treat others with care.
-
Be Ready: Come to school prepared to learn and join in. Show active listening and be ready for every part of the day.
-
Be Respectful: Show kindness and consideration to everyone. Listen to others, value different opinions and treat everyone with dignity and respect.
Our Core Values: What We Believe In
At Greenhill, we believe in promoting these values in every part of our school life, which define our school culture and promote our children's growth:
-
Kindness - a foundation of respect and empathy
At our school, kindness is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every interaction is an opportunity to show empathy and respect - building a community where everyone feels valued and supported. Children are encouraged to practise kindness daily, whether in the classroom, on the playground, or within their own homes.
-
What kindness looks like: Helping others, listening actively, being grateful and showing compassion.
- Confidence - believing in ourselves and our abilities
Confidence is the key to facing challenges and achieving success. We encourage our children to embrace their strengths and recognise their potential. By developing confidence, children build the courage to take risks, make decisions and be leaders within our school community.
-
What confidence looks like: Speaking up in class, setting goals, trying new things without fear of failure.
- Resilience - overcoming obstacles with determination
Life’s challenges are inevitable but resilience empowers us to overcome them. We teach our children that mistakes and setbacks are simply part of the journey towards growth. Resilience helps children bounce back stronger after difficulties, learn from experiences and maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity.
-
What resilience looks like: Staying focused after setbacks, problem-solving, maintaining a positive attitude.
Why Our Ethos, Rules and Values Matter
Our ethos, rules, and values help us build a positive and safe learning environment where everyone feels welcome. By following these principles, we encourage:
-
Strong friendships
-
Academic success
-
Respectful behaviour
-
A positive attitude towards learning
When everyone works together, we create a school that is not only a place for learning but also a place where we grow, support each other and celebrate our successes!
We encourage everyone — children, teachers and parents — to follow our ethos, rules and values so that we can continue to grow as a supportive and positive community.
