Pupil Premium
What is Pupil Premium?
The Pupil Premium is funding provided to schools and it is additional to main school funding. It is allocated according to the number of pupils on-roll who are eligible for free school meals (FSM), children of service families, or who have been ‘Looked After’ (in care) for 6 months or more. In 2012, funding was extended to include pupils who may not currently be on FSM but have been eligible within the past 6 years.
How do eligible children benefit from the grant?
Every child is unique and has different needs. At Greenhill, we believe that every child has the right to achieve the best they can and all that we do is aimed at making this possible. We recognise that many children come to us with disadvantages they cannot control and we use the pupil premium grant to give those children additional support. If we judge that a disadvantaged child would benefit from extra help, we will invest part of the grant to support that child in a different way.
A large part of the grant is spent on additional, qualified staff who work with targeted children. This can be within lessons or one-to-one/small group interventions (either planned or same day where additional support is given to a child who has not progressed as well in the lesson). All teachers are aware of which children are eligible for pupil premium and monitor their progress carefully to ensure they are working as successfully as all other children. Children, who are at risk of falling behind, are identified and additional support with specific objectives could be timetabled. Children who are eligible for pupil premium form a part of this. This support is considered regularly at Pupil Progress Review meetings to ensure it is having the necessary impact.
A final part of the grant can be allocated to additional specific needs of individual disadvantaged children. These may be acute needs which impact on the ability of a child to progress successfully that we may not be able to support with existing resources.
Each year, we develop our pupil premium strategy to identify how we will spend the grant. This year's is available below.
What has been the impact?
Throughout the year, we monitor the impact on disadvantaged children and publish a summary of the impact. The previous year's impact is measured within the document. In 2021, due to the pandemic, there are no national test or assessments for 2020 or 2021.
